STUDENT'S DAY AT ST. JOSEPH'S
COLLEGE
In a unique move, St. Joseph's College principal Father P Joseph
Victor decided to have his teachers evaluated by students. Not
an easy task, the idea needed a lot of hard sell. Though the teachers
were hesitant at first, finally they agreed and were even pretty
excited about it. A form with 20 questions was prepared from similar
questionnaries from Bharathiar University in Coimbtore and another
from Pune, apart from local inputs. A steering committee was also
formed to conduct the process. On April 3 and 4, the evaluation
took place, with students from the entire college participating
in it. Father Victor said the teachers were very eager to see
the evaluation sheets but they are still being processed. The
Father has decided to keep the feedback confidential. "To counter
the reactions caused by a too positive or negative remarks, we
devised a self-evaluation system for the teachers as caution has
to be taken to stop any over reaction," he said.
ANOTHER EVENT AT ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE
Students, past and present, feel a strong bond towards the college
and actively participate in all its activities. In the recent
two day Platinum Jubilee Celebrations on April 6 and 7, there
was a large alumni turnout, attended by luminaries like Foreign
Secretary Chokila Iyer, former Chief Secretary Manish Gupta and
Karma Dorjee, Bhutan Secretary of Trade and Industries. The NP
Association from Bhutan even contributed Rs. 45,000 towards development
funds. An adhoc committee was also formed consisting of 11 members
led by Mr. C.B. Rai, former principal and alumni. The main job
of the committee will be to draft a constitution for the new alumni
association which will be the parent organisation of all the existing
St. Joseph's College alumni associations in different part of
the globe.
